Product details

The Saber 8K Kinetic Recovery Rope is a versatile recovery rope for dual cab utes, mid size 4WDs and everyday touring vehicles where a lighter 4K rope may no longer be appropriate.

At 9 metres long with an 8,200kg minimum breaking strength, it is well suited to vehicles in the Hilux, Ranger, D MAX, Prado and Pajero class when correctly matched to the loaded vehicle weight.

During a kinetic recovery, the Nylon 66 rope stretches under load and stores energy before progressively transferring it to the stuck vehicle. This creates a smoother pull than a static rope and helps reduce the sudden shock transmitted through the vehicles and recovery points.

Made for Mid Size 4WDs and Dual Cabs

Choosing the right kinetic rope is important because a larger rating is not automatically better. A rope that is far too strong for the vehicle may not stretch enough to work as intended, while an undersized rope can be overloaded. Saber recommends selecting a kinetic rope with a minimum breaking strength around two to three times the loaded weight of the lighter vehicle involved in the recovery. The 8K rope is intended as the all round option for many common touring 4WDs and dual cab utes.

8,200kg Minimum Breaking Strength

Despite being marketed as the 8K rope, Saber rates this model to an 8,200kg minimum breaking strength. The rope is made from heavy duty Nylon 66, giving it the elasticity required for controlled kinetic recoveries while maintaining the strength needed for heavier touring vehicles. Its 9 metre length provides room for the rope to progressively stretch and transfer energy during the recovery.

Protected Against Touring Conditions

Saber applies an outer treatment to the finished rope to help protect it from UV exposure, moisture, dirt and sand. Both recovery eyes also use a soft vinyl polymer coating to add protection around the areas that regularly contact soft shackles and other compatible recovery equipment. The rope should still be inspected before and after each use for cuts, abrasion, contamination or other damage.

Around 30% Stretch Under Load

Saber’s current sizing guidance describes its kinetic recovery ropes as providing up to approximately 30% stretch under load. That controlled stretch allows energy from the recovery vehicle to be absorbed over a greater distance before being transferred to the stuck vehicle, creating a smoother recovery than a low stretch connection. The amount of stretch achieved in practice depends on the load applied and how closely the rope is matched to the vehicles involved.

Carry Bag Included

The rope is supplied in a hard wearing washable carry bag. Mesh sections at each end improve ventilation and make it easier to store the rope after dusty, muddy or sandy recoveries.

What’s Included

1 × Saber 9m 8,200kg Kinetic Recovery Rope
1 × Washable Carry Bag

Important Recovery Note

Always use properly rated vehicle recovery points and appropriately rated recovery equipment. The rope should be selected around the loaded weight of the lighter vehicle involved in the recovery. Avoid attaching recovery equipment to tow balls or unrated tie down points.
