We’re Finn & Em, the team behind North Adventures 👋

What started as a shared love of fourbying and camping from an early age has gradually become a pretty big part of our lives. Most of our favourite memories have come from being somewhere remote, usually after a long day on the road, covered in dust, setting up camp somewhere with no phone reception and no real reason to be anywhere else. Finn grew up between a farm in the Blue Mountains, and sailing the East Coast with his Dad on a Catamaran. And Em often camped with her Dad in rural NSW, looking for gold and prospecting. North Adventures grew naturally from that love of outdoor exploration for both of us. Finn has a background as an automotive electrician, which naturally informs the expertise and support we are able to offer with our products. Em is an operating theatre nurse, where being highly organised and detail oriented is essential, a skill that has become integral in developing the business together.

In 2024, we did a (very quick!) lap of Australia, spending most of our time in the Northern part of Western Aus, where we got to experience the stunning landscapes, sunshine and the bluest water, as well as so much wildlife. During our travels, we’ve spent plenty of time figuring out what works, what doesn’t, what’s worth carrying and what just ends up taking up space in the back of the fourby!

We’re not interested in selling gear just because it looks good on a shelf. We want to offer practical stuff that make sense for touring, camping and off-grid travel, whether that means a better solar setup, a more reliable electrical system, or simply something that makes life at camp a little easier.

A big part of what we enjoy is just learning too. There’s always another track to explore, another setup to improve, or something we would do differently next time. Through our guides, articles and trips, we try to share that experience in a way that’s useful and straightforward, rather than making 4WD touring seem more complicated than it needs to be. We also believe the places we get to explore deserve to be looked after. Travelling remotely comes with a responsibility to respect the land, leave campsites as we found them and make sure these places are still there for the people coming after us. We've seen so many beautiful places trashed... even if you didn't make the mess, try to clean up where you can and look after our incredible country. 

More than anything, North Adventures is about just encouraging people to get out there and create their own experiences. You don’t need the biggest instagram spec build, the most expensive gear or the perfect setup to start exploring. Sometimes the best trips are simply about slowing down, taking the long way around.

For us, the simplest trips, with a random mechanical drama or something along the way are always the ones that are talked about around the next campfire anyway. If something we share helps you build a better touring setup, find a new campsite, solve a problem on the road or feel a little more confident heading further off the beaten track, then we’re doing what we set out to do.

The Big Gal

Meet our home on wheels! A 105 Series diesel Land Cruiser.

Like most builds, it hasn’t happened overnight. The setup has gradually evolved as we’ve travelled more, worked out what we actually use and changed things that didn’t quite work the way we expected, and as we could afford it.

It’s fitted with upgraded suspension, a dual-battery electrical system, starlink, rooftop tent, long-range fuel and water storage, drawer storage and a full recovery setup. Everything has been chosen with longer periods of self-sufficient travel in mind, particularly when fuel, water, phone reception and the nearest town can all be a fair distance away.

It isn’t a show car, and it definitely doesn’t stay clean for very long, but it’s built to be used!

From the Gibb River Road to the Vic High Country or Moreton, the Cruiser gives us the freedom to travel slowly and stay out for longer. Some days are spent driving hundreds of ks. Others are spent travelling almost nowhere because we’ve found a campsite that’s too good to leave. Sometimes everything goes perfectly, and sometimes something rattles loose, breaks, gets bogged or needs fixing on the side of the track.
