The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/35 and 150/45 are high-capacity solar charge controllers for larger caravan, marine and off-grid solar systems where you need more array flexibility than the smaller 75V and 100V Victron regulators can provide.
Both models accept solar arrays with up to 150V open-circuit voltage and support 12V, 24V and 48V battery systems, with 36V available through manual configuration. Choose between the 35A and 45A versions depending on the size of your solar array and required charging capacity.
Built-in Bluetooth gives you complete setup and monitoring through VictronConnect, while VE.Direct allows the regulator to integrate with compatible GX devices and the wider Victron ecosystem.

The two versions share the same core SmartSolar technology, with the main difference being maximum charging current and supported nominal PV capacity.

Both models have a 150V absolute maximum PV open-circuit voltage and reach up to 98% peak conversion efficiency.
What Does 150/35 or 150/45 Mean?
Victron's model numbers make choosing a regulator fairly straightforward.
The first number refers to the maximum permitted PV open-circuit voltage, while the second represents the regulator's maximum battery charging current.
So:
- 150/35 = 150V PV limit and 35A charge current
- 150/45 = 150V PV limit and 45A charge current
The higher 150V PV allowance gives you considerably more flexibility when wiring panels in series and designing larger solar arrays.
When calculating a series array, always account for the increase in panel Voc that occurs in cold conditions and keep the array within Victron's permitted PV voltage limits.
Which One Should You Choose?
For most 12V systems, the decision largely comes down to how much solar you're planning to install.
The 150/35 is a great fit for arrays around the 500W range on a 12V battery bank, while the 150/45 gives you room to move up to approximately 650W nominal PV.
On 24V and 48V systems, the same regulators can handle substantially larger arrays because the battery-side charging voltage is higher.
If your planned array sits close to the limit of the smaller regulator, we'd generally lean toward allowing some headroom rather than designing the system right on its maximum.

Victron's ultra-fast Maximum Power Point Tracking continually adjusts the operating point of the solar array to extract as much usable power as possible as sunlight, temperature and shading conditions change.
SmartSolar also uses an MPPT algorithm designed to identify the optimum power point when partial shading creates multiple possible peaks, helping improve energy harvest in less-than-perfect solar conditions.
For touring, marine and off-grid systems where panels regularly deal with passing cloud, antennas, trees and other sources of shade, that's a genuinely useful feature.
Bluetooth Monitoring with VictronConnect
Bluetooth is built directly into both models, so there's no additional dongle required for normal smartphone monitoring.
VictronConnect allows you to:

- Diagnose faults and system behaviour
- Update firmware
It's particularly useful during installation because you can immediately see what the panels and regulator are doing without pulling out a multimeter every time you want to check system performance.
Ready for a Larger Victron System
Both models include VE.Direct communication, allowing them to connect with compatible Victron GX equipment and monitoring systems.
For larger installations, this means your solar regulator can become part of the broader Victron system alongside battery monitors, inverter/chargers and other compatible equipment rather than operating as a standalone device.
Fanless, High-Efficiency Operation
Both regulators achieve up to 98% peak conversion efficiency and use natural cooling rather than an internal fan. Victron specifies full rated output up to 40°C, with output derating as temperatures increase beyond this point.
The fanless design means silent operation and eliminates another moving component, which is particularly appealing in caravans, boats and installations close to living spaces.
Intelligent Battery Charging
The SmartSolar range uses a multi-stage adaptive charging algorithm with eight pre-programmed profiles and fully adjustable charging parameters.
This allows the regulator to be configured for lithium, AGM, lead-acid and other battery systems according to the battery manufacturer's charging requirements.
