Product details

A rear long-arm conversion can transform the way a Nissan GQ or GU Patrol articulates, but changing the lower control arm geometry also alters two important suspension characteristics, instant centre and anti-squat. This GQ/GU Patrol Long Arm Fix Kit is designed to help bring that geometry back into a more suitable range by relocating the upper rear link mounting points on the differential housing.

The CNC-cut brackets fit over the factory upper link mounts and raise the upper link position, helping restore more appropriate suspension geometry after a long-arm conversion. The brackets locate from the existing factory bolt position, making fit-up straightforward before welding them permanently into place. Manufactured with precision in Newcastle, NSW by the team at Rampt Customs.

Key Features

  • Designed specifically for GQ and GU Patrol rear long-arm conversions
  • Helps correct instant centre and anti-squat geometry
  • Raises the factory upper rear link mounting position
  • CNC laser-cut 4mm steel brackets
  • Self-aligns using the factory upper link bolt position
  • Designed around vehicles with approximately 3–4" of suspension lift
  • Can be adapted to H260 differential housings with minor clearancing
  • Weld-on installation
  • Includes mounting spacers and required hardware

Why Long-Arm Geometry Matters

When the rear lower control arm mounting points are moved during a long-arm conversion, the relationship between the upper and lower suspension links changes.

That affects the suspension's instant centre and anti-squat characteristics, which in turn influence how the rear suspension reacts under acceleration, climbing and normal road driving.

The Fix Kit raises the upper link mounting position on the differential housing, helping bring these geometry figures back toward the range the conversion was intended to operate in.

Designed Around 3–4" Lift

The bracket geometry has been developed around GQ and GU Patrols running approximately 3–4" of suspension lift.

The kit can still provide a benefit on taller vehicles, but the geometry becomes progressively less ideal as lift height increases. For the best overall result, Rampt recommends keeping the vehicle within the 3–4" lift range.

This isn't just relevant to the rear links either — excessive lift changes suspension, steering and driveline geometry throughout the vehicle.

This Is a Fix Kit, Not a Long-Arm Kit!

This kit is designed to correct rear suspension geometry after a genuine long-arm conversion has already been fitted. If your lower control arms still attach to the factory chassis mounting points, the vehicle does not have a long-arm conversion and this kit is not suitable.

Extended or adjustable factory-position lower control arms are not considered long arms. Adjustable upper control arms aren't mandatory for fitting the kit, but they're strongly recommended on lifted vehicles so pinion angle can be correctly set after the suspension geometry has been changed.

H260 Differential Fitment

The brackets are designed around the standard Patrol upper link mounting arrangement. With some additional clearancing using an angle grinder, the kit can also be adapted to H260 differential housings. As with any weld-on suspension modification, final fitment should be checked carefully before welding.

What's Included

  • 2 × CNC laser-cut 4mm upper link relocation brackets
  • 4 × spacers
  • Required mounting hardware

Installation Guide

Allow approximately 1–1.5 hours for installation depending on vehicle condition and fabrication experience.

  1. Bolt the supplied spacers to the inside of the new brackets using the upper mounting holes. A couple of tack welds can be used to hold the spacers in position during final fit-up.
  2. Securely support the differential so it cannot rotate, then remove the upper control arms from the differential mounts.
  3. Grind away the flared section at the top of the factory upper link mounts.
  4. Slide the new brackets over the factory mounts and align the lower hole with the original upper link bolt hole.
  5. Check that the spacers clear the factory mount. Minor additional clearancing may be required depending on the condition and shape of the original mounts.
  6. Once alignment and clearance have been confirmed, weld the brackets into position.
  7. Paint or otherwise protect the bare steel, then reinstall the upper control arms.

Professional welding and fabrication experience is recommended for installation.
